Like I said before you have to ask at the park in Pa because every park MGR can make his own rules. This makes a little sense because each park has its own special features that need addressed.
If you ask them to all be the same, chances are very good, that they will make it unanimous with a blanket no detecting rule. Another thing was that I stopped in a State Park and asked the clerk, she said no metal detecting. I was on the way out of the park and spotted the Ranger. I thought I would stop and talk to him about detecting. He said go ahead and enjoy yourself. He even pointed out places to stay away from and some old foundations to go to. The Ranger was extremely polite and helpful. Sometimes the clerks are shy about giving permissing. At times a telephone call will be the same. Go in person if possible, go neatly and do not make a big issue if your not permitted to hunt. It is possible that someone is trying to get the park opened and you could spoil all their work.
