Default wow! thanks guys

this is a lot of valuable information. I will do the front yard today and let you know if anything. Did not have time yesterday with all the chores but now that most of them are done it's time to play.

You'd be amazed at the stuff you might find, When I was 8, I dug a hole out in my backyard where I grew up (it was built over an old quarry) and found a really old and supposedly rare coin from the 1800's in the hole that I dug. The coin has a devil on the front and the coin if I remember correctly was brown in color possibly copper. the back of the coin had a 2 or roman numerals, I really can't say for sure. If I find the coin in my stuff that's packed up I'll post it on here for all to see. -James

Default hunting in my back yard

I got my first detector about two weeks ago, Bounty Hunter Pioneer, my back yard was the first place I went. My house was built in 2003 but it was all farm land prior to that. But I knew where to look to test it out. Christmas of 2005 I bought my 5 year old daughter a gold kids ring and she lost is while playing on the swing set over the summer. I was able to find it in about 5 min. I don't know who was more excited, her or me! I gave it to her, she ran in the house and showed my wife. She put it on, after i washed it off, and she hasn't taken it off since. she says, "My ring fits like Mommy's rings now, I can't take it off."

Default To Dad Of 3

Be careful kids are notorious for losing rings there is a good possibility that you will be hunting soon for that ring again!!! Maybe you can substitute a gold colored costume ring for it and keep it for her when she is older and would appreciate and cherish it more !!! JOE

Default Kids old enough

Well, I have tried to take them but the seem to get bored with it pretty fast, My daughter is 6 and my boys are 4 and 3, they do think its fun and I take them with me as much as I can. (Plus it is a good break for my wife she is a stay at home mom.) It is funny, the detector goes off and they are right there, "what did you find daddy?" Before I have even started digging.. hahaha!

I am taking them to a park near by tomorrow to look on the lake "beach". I am not sure what all I will find if anything but at least they can play and dig in the sand.

Default good place to practice

I too recently purchased my house and already own the 2 lots beside it . I have found a lot of coins from the 50's and 60's but also a dime from 1913, quarter from 1919, nickel from the 20's, ring and a bracelet not to mention a bunch of new money. So I say yes this is a great place to start

all valuable info. Dad of 3 make sure that the ring is nice and tight on finger without cutting circulation . My son lost a ring that I found but then again 2 days later I found another kids gold ring. He put this one on for a bit but he forgot about it after a while and now I have it in the bucket of valuables. THANKS EVERYBODY. You have mase my week. this is my most responses in 1 post.

Default Found in Yard

Hi, I'm just getting started, got a Whites Quantum XT and started playing with it in my back yard. Found a silver pocket watch body! I new there was stuff there because when I busted the sod to level an area last fall, I discovered broken pottery and glass medicin bottles. I figured the stuff came from the soil that the sod was grown in before it was moved to the yard. I have dated most of the items found to roughly '50s. I guess the sod company was using dirt from a land-fill or something. Any way, your own yard could contain ANYTHING if the sod was brought in and rolled out instead of being grown on site.
