Default searching my own property ANYONE DONE THIS?

Someone posted on this before with good findings. I believe this person had a few acres. I live in a home that was built in the 70's I think and there have been 2 owners before us. The yards front and back are small with grass and was doing some reading on how to properly tear the grass without ruining it. There are also bits of dirt. I do have a few questions. 1) Do you think I will find something of value? at least some wheats, indianheads, or buffalo nickels? 2) How do I go about discriminating or avoiding underground pipes and things like that? its funny because i was thinking about doing this before and my wife just suggested it to me. Today would be a good day to start this since it is raining on and off and there is nowhere to go. NO MATTER WHAT IT WILL BE A FUN PROJECT. ANY INFO ON THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I have searched my own property. It is just a small plot (100 X 200) and my house was built in the 70s also. I did find some pennies. It was good practice. As far as pipes go...if you get a target and it is quite large you can just about bet it is pipes or wires. Also look at where you think your pipes and wires would run and figure out if it is logical that that is where they should be. Happy hunting and remember - even if your house is fairly new you can never tell what was on the property before your house was there or who might have crossed over it and dropped something. Good luck and keep us posted.

All i found were some parts to a toy rifle and one rusty matchbox bus. My home was also built in the early 70's

If nothing else it makes good practice. Enjoy and go for it.

So far my property is the only place I've detected. I'm still trying to find somewhere good to hunt. We have 3 acres, and I haven't found anything valuable at all. It has been good practice though. At the very least, I think I'm learning how to spot pipes and trash.

Default just tried to detect the back yard

and my detector started to go nuts . I have a whites dfx. i first put it on coin/jewlery then just coins and it was just out of control. I think it was because there is a pull-up bar I built, the tool shed is right next to it and I also have a little fence about 2 to 2.5 inches like a gardening type fence and I think all those things kinda got it out of control. is there something I can do to get it back in control? Anyways I have been doing chores that needed to be done in the meantime and also I might try out the front yard where there is not so much studd. let me know. thanks.

Default SEARCHING MY OWN PROPERTY: any one done this?

This is the 1st place that most TH'ers start! You can make all the mistakes here without consequences! Hunt in low discriminate and dig everything. Discard all your trash so next time you won't be digging the same trash again! You can refine your digging etique or use a shovel! Just because the house was built recently doen't mean it doesn't contain any treasures. A ring could be found and your house site may have held another home in the distant past. You will never know until you start digging and all those iffy signals go ahead and dig them and see what it really is! Out in the field, you may not have this option! HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK JOE
