Default How many grams- Morgan Dollar

How many grams in an oz.????

I was given a Morgan Silver dollar. It is a 1921S. It was given to me when I was born in 1958. My mother kept it for all these years, she had forgotten about it. She told me that when I was born a neighbor came over to the house just after I was born and placed it in my hand. The lady was from Ireland and said it was a tradition to place a sliver dollor in a new borns hand to see if the new born would grasp it. If the new born did grasp it, good luck would fool the child. I was told I did grasp it and held on to it for a time. She Just gave it to me. The last time I held this coin was over 48 years ago. It will be passed on to my daughter one day.

Tom

Very interesting story dri-wash. That reminds me of something that happened to me once. When my grandfather passed away in January 1991, a few months later my grandmother came to spend a weekend with us, and while she was there she gave a small envelope to me with my name typed on the envelope. The envelope was a Whitney National Banks envelope and when I opened it a 1922 Liberty Peace silver dollar slid into my hand. There was also a note inside that envelope which read, "DEAR STEPHAN: ALWAYS KEEP THIS SILVER DOLLAR AND YOU WILL NEVER BE BROKE. WITH ALL MY LOVE," and then he signed his name. It was dated 7-14-75, which meant that I was three years old when he "gave" that gift to me. It has always been in my possession and it will be passed down to my son when he gets older. That little gift my grandfather gave to me will always be treasured in my heart! ... Not only did I receive this gift, my grandfather gave all three of my older sisters a silver dollar as well, with a like message. So therefore I am sure he did the same for all of my cousins as well!

This is something that others can do for their children/grandchildren for a keepsake that will be passed down from generation to generation!
