Recommendation

I have only been in this hobby for a short while now and was wondering if I would benefit from using a “pinpointer”. I have been reading a lot about these accessories and I think it might help me find objects quicker and easier. My question is, do any of you use “pinpointers”, and if you do, which on do you us?
My interest is in hunting on fresh water beaches (dry sand) and in schoolyards and occasionally in wooded areas for coins and/or relics.

I'll have to get me one of those, it sounds like it will make my life a lot easier.

I also need to get a sand scoop, I have been using a garden trowel for both the beach and parks.

A pinpointer would be real nice. You may also want to think about drilling you some holes in the garden trowel you have so when you dig the sand will sift through the trowel and leave your target in the trowel.

I'm here to tell you that a sand scoop is the way to go on the beach, that soft loss sand is no match for garden tools, i barrowed my neighbors the last time i went...because the tools could not get the coin to the top it keep going deeper. ..i still have to get me one, and i talked to somebody the last time i was out and he had a long ss one which was about 8 lbs,way to heavy to carry around along with my md, but my neighbors is the small one with just a handle, of course you have to bend down to use it ,but much easyer to carry.... hope this helps you, because i am getting ready to get me one........

I have been putting off getting the additional tools that I need (sand scoop, pinpointer...), I guess I just have to "bite the bullet" and order the rest of the things that I really need to do this hobby the "right" way.

Ranger, go to a hardware store and buy a snap or what ever and attach it to the scoop and hook it to your belt and drag it, put a short tether on it. a lot easier on the arm and it leaves a line in the sand where you can tell where you been.
