Default Meteorites

I was reading an article about Marvin Killgore a meteorite collector. Says one of his lunar meteorites is worth an astonishing $3.5 million. Got me wondering. Has anyone here on TQ ever found a meteorite with a metal detector?

I have read reports in detecting magazines. Also heard of some one who found one at a garage sale! You have to know what you are looking for, I guess.

Default Worth some big money

Saw a show on PBS about a guy with a 4 wheeler towing a large PVC Pipe coil to find meteors in farm fields. They found one 10ft down. They were talking about huge values per pound (don’t recall exactly). There was also a segment about a boutique style shop selling meteors and fragments mounted or cut cross-section, all selling for high dollar amounts. Meteors can millions of years old and rich space enthusiasts will pay lots of money apparently. The cross sections looked cool too.
