Default first post bill gent hunting 1840 homes in city

a few people know me from another site for all of you who don't I reside in nj and fairly new to all of this been hunting a little over a good year.
My city has considerable history dating back to the 1600 with at least a major american rev war site (see Battle of Paulis Hook). Like any other city progress takes place over history and some 40 odd homes are due to be demolished by the state for a bypass sorely needed on an out dated highway system. There are 5 homes that date back to at least 1840 and tad later and one home attached to the photo below is dated older. Got to talk to a living history book one of the former owners who's in her 90s lived there all her life and uncle who lived the same and so on. The area was farm land settled by the dutch up til late 1700s when homes were built wasn't long before a RR sprung up and was used for the cw artillery transport .

To date some of the homes all vacant now are still standing but heavly vandelized for copper the state has come in with testing equipment and dug some not all the privys . They have declared it a historic site but will go ahead and demolish anyway taking photos and some artifacts . In our digging with prior owners before DOT bought the property we found:

A half of grist wheel dating 1700's, bricks dating pre 1820s, several silver coins and wheats,, (newer) not colonial, an old beer bottle dating late 1800's (city brewery), some cw buttons, Old medicine bottles (they made their own) a cast iron stove 48inches in pristine condition, plates early 1900s, several old RR locks still working some with keys ( womans uncle worked for the RR) some penny post cards and old bills dating late 1800s there is a ton of stuff that we couldn't begin to post it all. And probably alot more tough to say when DOT will begin complete leveling of all homes. We hope to get back to one home that we are sure was used to harbor run away slaves (hidden celler). Caution is exercised here as the homes have become havens for gang and drug activity when we go we're armed and protected but common sense is the order of the day.

Like i said we've just scratched the surface just hope we can MD it all after the leveling. We have also searched in the usual haunts where one would hide cashes checked all doors, floors, cupboards and stuff to no avail. All artifacts will be given to a future museum in the city (with me as possible curator) in a historic home 1700s (see apple tree house jersey city NJ)

sorry so long winded but figured to give you a good understanding of the area
