Default Garrett is an Awesome Company (ACE Vs. GTAX)

Well folks, in my typical "I need to know everything" I emailed Garrett and asked them about the ACE 250 over the GTAX 550.

In a nutshell here is what they told me.

  • ACE 250 is lighter and has more features
  • GTAX 550 costs more because it has more parts (circuit boards and detachable battery pack)
  • The only advantage of the GTAX over the ACE is about 2 or 3 more inches of depth.
  • Finally: Garrett recommended the AC E 250
I posted that I bought a used GTAX and a NEW 250. I will go back to my original idea. I am going to test both, but now with this response the ACE has lead in the race.

When have you known a company to recommend a lower priced model? Garrett is an awesome company, honest, and with great integrity.

I agree with boobie, 2" to 3 " depth advantage is huge in my book and may contribute to some older finds. HH Bill

Thanks Guys.

I bought it used for the same price as an ACE 250.

I read that the unit has automatic ground balancing. The rep asked where I read that so I emailed part of the PDF that discussed that feature.

I am waiting to hear back to see if they confirm this is the case.

You do make a good point, getting further down in the soil is a good thing.
