Default Another Newbie Here!

Hi folks! Found your website through another website on detecting. I am so new to this that my ears are still soaking wet! lol ! I bought a basic detector , the Bounty VLF. Sounds like everyone has some real fancy machines out there. Hopefully after awhile I'll upgrade too. I read your hints about working the yard with planted items and that is a great training tool! I'll check back at least once a week. Take care.

Default Welcome to the forum...

:D 1960vw,
Just wanted to say welcome to the forum. Lot's of interesting things on here...I just joined a few weeks ago and now I am a regular.

When I started detecting in 1995, I bought a detector from Radio Shack. It was ok for detecting schoolyard playgrounds but it only went about 2 inches down. I started to up grade and now I use a White's Spectrum XLT and I love it. If you would like to see some of my finds, I maintain two websites..

One is our club website: http://treasureseekers3.tripod.com/

The other is my personal site: http://michaelhardy_2.tripod.com/

If you have some time, give them a look. Again, welcome to the forum and come back often. if you have any questions at all please ask and someone on here will answer them. Check out "Ask Ole Pappy" he is a wealth of knowledge and will help you in any way...

Welcome,
Mike (mhardy53)

Hi 1960vw,
Welcome to Treasure Quest!
We are more than happy to help, any question you have then please ask!

You don't need a fancy high priced detector to find old coins and treasure.

I was hunting with a friend one time and he had a Bounty Hunter Land ranger and I use the Spectrum XLT ( the sprectrum cost a bunch more $$) any how I searched an area and he came behind me and dug a silver Mecury dime right there where I already searched

Boy did I feel bad for a few days but I wasn't taking my time in the search.
So learn your detector and what it's telling you and you will do fine.
I have a test garden where I have coins and pulltabs buried at different depths, I like to detect it when the soil is wet and dry.

Also check out this page for tips; http://www.treasurequestxlt.com/guide/index.shtml

Good luck,

I too am new to this site. I am also interested in all types of detecting. I've had my current detector XLT for over two years. Sorry to say I've only been out about seven times. Not proud of this, but trying to work on it. Planning a trip in Sept to the Ocean City Beaches, the detector is definately going with me. My best find out of 7 outings is a pair of diamond rings. One ring is a solitare, looks to be 1/4 carot. The second ring has two smaller diamonds and fits around the solitare. I found these near the ruins of a old garage that was being torn down. My wife had the second ring repaired at a jeweler shop because the ring was damaged. Now she wears it on her other hand. Looks good there on her hand. Don't think I'll get that back. Great site I'll be back............. Dug
