Default Coins on Topsail Island 2/20/07

I would suggest that anyone who likes to metal detect the beach on Topsail Island try it this week. We had a strong south wind today and its starting to cover the coins near the dunes even deeper. If you try just south of the remains of the black pier about 5-15' from the dunes I'm sure there are many coins left. I haven't seen this many coins in many years. I either threw away or didn't dig at least 50 pennies and brought home the following after detecting about 4 hours:
33 quarters including 2 silver and 1 porno ( centaur side and couple side)
28 dimes including 2 mercury
18 nickels
15 pennies including 5 wheat
1 Canadian penny and No jewelry

I found some of the coins south of the remains most northern pier in Surf City (Jolly Roger ?) but most were south of the black pier. This wont last for long as a bitter cold South wind was coming right up the beach. Hope
someone out there can take advantage of this info.
Marty

Default After Storms

Hi Digger:
Yes I've been out after a few storms but not in the last several years.
When I did I usually found gold or silver rings. Mostly wedding bands and
High School graduation rings and several hundred coins along with
amusement park tokens and foreign coins. Also the best time for some
older coins such as Mercury dimes and Buffalo nickels. I'm now 78 so I
dont get out as much but still find it very relaxing and look forward to it.
The only real old coins Ive found is south of Old Salty's pier to the south
end of the luxury Condos. I would definitely concentrate on that area after
a storm.
