.....the absolute BEST CW Relic hunting machine made today is the Nautilus DMC-IIBa. That's why over 90% of the "dyed in the wool" CW hunters use them.
Unfortunately, back east where the CW War was fought, the best, and most finds are quite deep, averaging between 8" and 18" down. Also unfortunately, most detectors on the market today, just don't go to those depths. The Nautilus DOES, and even deeper depending on the coil used!!!!!!
Equally unfortunately, the Nautilus is in the $600 to $700 range.
Having said that, the Tesoro Vaquero and Tesoro Tejon are very hot machines, and go quite deep as well. They too, are above your stated price range, being in the $400 to $550 range.
You may be able to find a used Tesoro in your range, but that isn't very likely. Be careful when buying a used detector, on eBay or elsewhere. I have found many of them to be another's problem that become's your's. If you are going to buy used, look to a solid dealer who will stand behind the detector he sells you.
Hate to sound negative, but your ACE 250 might be the best you're gonna do in that price range.

I already have a few sites picked out to try and there is one site in Kentucky that a buddy of mine says that you can still see where the trenches were dug and he believes that the site has never been touched since it is on private property and it is his uncles place. Thanks for any help and information. TaTonka aka Eric.
