Default Being new--a question on peripherals

OK, metal detector is on the way(ebay purchase). I have made a 12" brass rod probe and a 10" brass coin flipper. I also modified a potting trowel, sharpened the sides and added some notches to cut sod.

I also have a small canvas tool pouch, everything fits on it nicely. What else should I outfit myself with. I don't want to get out and find I am lacking a piece of equipment I need.

What do you find indespensable???????

Jeff

If you are going to be where there are tree or shrub roots you might want to take a hand held pruner for cutting them

Have you considered knee pads to protect your pants from grass and mud stains. Do you have a pinpointer?
They are very useful in my opinion

.....don't forget a very good and comfortable set of headphones, like the RatPhones! We have them in stock, and they are as good as it gets!

Unhappy Peripherals

Always be sure to take along a 'fresh' spare battery pack. It can be very frustating to be on the far side of a hunt area after a few hours of detecting and have the batteries die. It can be a long walk back (or home) in order to continue the hunt...

Default Peripherals

I also like to have a pair of gloves handy, usually this would be a pair of Nitril golves, they are similar to surgical gloves but are very tough and wear well when scratching around in the soil. I get mine from Harbour Freight when they are on sale (can be found on the web).

Another thing I like to have along is a small (minimal) First aid kit. Disinfectant, bandage, tweezers etc. Keeps those small injuries from being anoying or worse. (Wish they would make sample size chewing tobacco packets, great for insect bites and stings.)

Went to L---s yesterday and was looking for a tool pouch for around the house. Saw this pouch that I thought would make a good MD'ing pouch, with a couple mods done to it.

Cut hammer loops off.

Removed threads from bottom of nail punch for pinpointer to fit all the way in.

put 2 rivits in second pocket to separate pruner and digger and make them stand up

added a trailer hitch lockng pin to teather my sand scoop so I can drag it, keeps one hand free for smoking

It has 4 pockets and is about 9" w by 11" h, think it will work pretty good.
1st pocket - glove, also it is a big pocket
2nd - pruner & digger
3rd knee pad
4th towel
