Default Former Hobby

This isn't anything to do with metal detecting but I used to cut and polish stones and that led to making rings to put them into. I started selling them and then it changed from a hobby to a job couldn't really keep up with the demand and I liked it less and less untill I just quit doing it. These were laying around so I thought someone might like to see them. The first pic is a piece of mussel shell in the center and obsidian on the outsides. (Made this one for my sweetie) Pic 2: is lace agate and two turquoise. Pic 3: first is a purchased finding with a tiger eye, next two are cast useing "lost wax investment" (I used my scrap silver for these two) they have a tiger eye and lace agate. Pic 4:first is a purchased finding with petrified wood the next is lace agate. Next time I will stick to metal detecting I have a box of rings I found back in the 70's may dig out and post them. Thanks for bearing with me when I start off in another direction. Everyone have a great day and the best of luck to all. Richard (Gizmo)

Hey Gizmo,
Nice rings! I find it amazing to take a hunk of rock and turn it into something beautiful.
Its funny the thing about getting tired of something you enjoyed. I use to love to fish, got tied up in tournament fishing. After 4 years of getting up early, rushing to the lake, and running around in a boat, panic fishing, I finally woke up one morning and realized it had turned into a job with no fun involved.
Nope, I no longer fish tournaments. I still fish from time to time, but I take my time doing it. It’s amazing how long it sometimes takes us to learn a little lesson in life.

Beautiful Work Gizmo,

It's a shame you gave up making the rings but sometimes turning a hobby into business no matter how big or small can ruin the Fun. Hope you enjoy your New hobby and Good Luck. HH Bill

Default Hey Gizmo

Man thats great looking rings for sure and great talent to make a rock into a ring like that...I like the forth photo, ring on the left...if you get back into it do it for the love of it and not to make it a living!.....great job Gizmo....

Beautiful Rings ya made there Gizmo, and Awesome work too...I know what you mean when a fun loving hobby turns into to a grueling job and all interest is lost....I did the same with woodworking... But I'm easing my way back into it...
