I have two Fisher Cz6 detectors that were purchased new in 1993. My wife
decided she didn't like metal detecting, so while mine received heavy usage, hers received little use. In 1996 my detector and large coil was sent to Fisher for repair. When it came back the 4 pin plastic control box and coil connectors had been replaced with the heavier 5 pin metal connectors. The earphone pigtail was eliminated and a 1/4" female connector was installed in the control box. Fisher had virtually converted this CZ6 to a CZ6a. It became obvious that the coil and control box connection was a result of usage stress on the plastic connection between the coil cable and the control box. If you use a hip mounted detector of any brand, I strongly recommend you avoid this problem with a simple no cost solution. At about the same time I realized I would eventually have to contend with the same problem on the other CZ6; I received a birthday gift box of three pairs of socks. Well the small plastic holder in each pair of socks that allows them to be folded and secured was the answer. I found if you slide one of these holders behind and over your belt it will leave the small curved semi circle on the outside of your belt. If you then snap the end of your coil cable (about 14" from the control box) into this plastic sock holder it will eliminate all the stress on the connection between the cable and the box. I alternate between the CZ6 and CZ6a and ALWAYS use the plastic sock holder. To this date I have not experienced the same problem on the CZ6. AS far as I'm concerned there would have been no need update to a CZ6a had I learned about the plastic sock holder sooner. So check your new socks and be safe. ![]() |
