Griswoldville
Griswoldville was founded by Sam Griswold in the 1840's. Sam built a manufacturing company in the NW corner of the town that prospered until the civil war. During the civil war, the factory was converted to a pistol and arms factory. Today, those articles are rare and command a high price on. during the war the town hit a population of 500 and was home to several stores and other businesses. In 1864, one of Sherman's Corps established a perimeter Half mile east of town and burned the factory and Sam's house (on the SE corner of town). Confederate troops from Macon marched to the town and engaged in a fierce fight with the Union troops and subsequently had to withdraw, with 150 casualties. Several skirmishes were fought in and near the town.
