33 year old treasure hunt still active

#1
In 1982 a book called "The Secret: a Treasure Hunt" was published.

About a year or so earlier the author Byron Preiss went to 12 cities in the United States or Canada and buried a ceramic casque. Inside the casque was a key that could be sent back to the author for a jewel worth about $1,000.00.

The casque was put in a Plexiglas box before being buried. They were buried at a depth of no more than 3 1/2 feet deep. It is believed that the casques were buried in public parks in the 12 cities.

To find the casque you had to first find the clues hidden in one of 12 pictures. The pictures had among other things numbers that when correctly arranged will spell out the latitude and longitude of the city that the casque was hidden in, landmarks that identified the city and landmarks that identify the park in which the casque was buried.

Once you discerned the city and park you then had to match one of 12 poetic verses to the picture. If you found the correct verse and correctly figured out the clues the verse would lead you to the location to dig up the casque.

To date only 2 have been confirmed found and a 3rd is believed to be found. Thus 9 or 10 are still to be found.

Byron Priess was killed in a car accident in 2005 and it is believed he took the location to the remaining casques to his grave. His companies were liquidated at a bankruptcy sale a short time later. Even so the search for the remaining casques continues.

Another important thing to state at this point, a man named John Jude Palencar painted the images. He has told numerous people on multiple occasions that he DOES NOT want to give us any information with regard to the clues that are in the images. So please DO NOT try to contact Mr. Palencar in any way shape or form.

You can view a wiki with all the images, verses and how the members of the wiki believe it all comes together at thesecret.pbworks.com

In the near future I will post my own theory of how it comes together and everything else we know. Some of it will match the wiki some of it will differ from the wiki.

It is my hope that all of you with all of your knowledge various metal detecting and ground radar equipment can help us find the remaining casques.

I'm sure a lot of thought was put into where these casks were buried when the site were selected. There are numerous popular parks in NYC where metal detecting is not permitted.

I will now sum up where we are on the hunt for these casques.

Most of this will match what the wiki says but some of it will differ.

First What has been found:
Image 4 and Verse 4 went to Cleveland. This one was found in 2004
Image 5 and Verse 12 went to Chicago. This one was found in 1983
Image 6 and Verse 9 are believed to go together and go to the Ponce Deleon Archeological Park in St. Augustine. Someone on the Wiki said they "located" the St. Augustine key in May of 2015. I will consider this one found as well.

Second what was confirmed by Preiss confirmed before he died:
One casque is buried in Canada
A casque is buried in St. Louis
A casque is buried in the children's zoo in Herman Park in Houston
The casque in New York is not in Central Park
No casque is buried in Philadelphia

Next the believed cities that the images for the still buried casques are believed to go to:
Image 1: San Francisco the latitude and longitude numbers lock it in
Image 2: Charleston a map of the city is hidden in the image
Image 3: Roanoke Island a map of the island is hidden in the image
Image 7: New Orleans some people think this goes to St. Louis but an upside-down map of Louisiana is hidden in the image. It is called the horsehead on the wiki
Image 8: Houston the latitude and Longitude numbers along with what has been confirmed lock it in
Image 9: St. Louis many on the wiki think this goes to Montreal because of the leg eater. But considering the book was never printed in French and what was confirmed I would say it goes to St. Louis
Image 10: Milwaukee the rebus puzzle spells this one out very clearly
Image 11: This is the Canadian casque. Much of the wiki thinks this goes to Boston but I do not. First a blade of the Canadian maple leaf is hidden in the flowers in sections K&L 8.
Second the numbers 42, 11, 22 all hidden in the image almost smack on match Windsor Ontario
Another possible match is Ottawa the box image looks a lot like the Fairmont Hotel
Toronto is a lesser possibility the box image could be Casa Loma but it does not match up as well.
Image 12: New York the images match up perfectly

Lastly what I believe the images and verses match up:
Image 1: Verse 7 linked by the line stonewall door. Do not overlook the Japanese Tea Garden. It is not likely but it sure matches the verse.
Image 2: Verse 5 believed to be Ft. Maltrie
Image 3: Verse 11 linked by land near the window
Image 7: Verse 2 linked by namesake meeting
Image 8: Verse 1 definite based on confirmations
Image 9: Verse 6 linked by arms extended bar that binds, turn the image upside-down and look
the checker area below the collar. It looks like arms extended bar that binds. I
believe it is in the Muney/Pagoda Circle area of Forest Park in St. Louis MO
Image 10: Verse 8 is an absolute match to Lake Park in Milwaukee
Image 11: Verse 3 likely the canal area of Ottawa
Image 12: Verse 10 linked by the gray giant. I think the gray giant was the World Trade Center
not the Statue of Liberty

You can find out more about all of this on the wiki at thesecret.pbworks.com

In the near future I will post some information about a guy who thinks he knows the location of the New Orleans casque and wants people to dig it up with him.

The last thing I want to say in this post is that these casques are ceramic in a Plexiglas box buried up to 3.5 feet deep. A traditional metal detector may not find them. Some units have ground radar, this is likely what will be needed.

For those of you in the Houston and Milwaukee area it is very likely we have the correct image and verse match. If you are interested in doing a search go to the wiki thesecret.pbworks.com and contact the administrator.

It looks like the Milwaukee casque is in Lake Park. We have a confirmation that the Houston casque is in the children's zoo in Hermann Park.

Also for those of you in the St. Augustine area as well as for the administrator of the wiki, we need to try to find out what the individual really meant when they said they "located the St. Augustine key". If they did not dig it up but have a definite location, we should do what we can to help them recover the casque.

The book had a procedure for if you found the casque site but could not dig it up.

If we are lucky we may be able to bring the total number of casques found to 5 in the not too distant future.

I will review the rest of what I believe the other matches are and post some comments on them in the near future.

The next thing we need to do is try to find clues in the images that will lead us to a particular park. Once we know a particular park we can better unravel the clues. I will review what we know so far and post again soon.

In the meantime those of you that are in the Charleston South Carolina area look at I think it is verse 5. The wiki community thinks it goes to Montreal but I do not. I think it goes to Ft. Moltrie. Pay close attention to the clue Lane 220 and a wingless bird ascended.

I think the wingless bird was a hot air balloon. If you can try to talk to the people at Ft. Moltrie and see if they can help us.

For those of you in Windsor or Ottawa Ontario try to check with the parks department and see if they can help us find a match to the verse ending in "in truth be free". I think the Thysidius and Xenophon are or were on something that moved.

Lastly for toes of you in Milwaukee check Lake Park the verse that talks about the 3 stories of Mitchel is spot on Lake Park. For those of you in Houston check the Children's Zoo in Hermann Park. This one was confirmed. Also remember roots etc could have easily broken the casque and its box. A good ground radar that can distinguish between roots and a casque would be helpful.

I will publish another update soon. You can check out more information on all of this on the Wiki. I think I am close to figuring out all the cities.

Also if anyone knows what happened with the St. Augustine casque let us know. Was it found or its exact location found. If the exact location is found we should get clearance to dig it up.

Can you review the address link to the website. I don't think that it is displayed in the correct format. I can't get it to come up.
