First stop was Buttonwood Farm in Griswold, Ct. for ice cream sundaes. This stand first opened in 1975 and has really good ice cream. After that we took the back roads down to Mystic, Conn. which is a quaint little New England town along the shore and a very popular tourist destination. The first two pics are of the ice cream stand. The next one is looking down main street in Mystic. After that are pics of us "senior citizens" as we started to stroll the downtown. The next one is the view of the Mystic River which runs through the town. After that are pics of spots you can sit and relax right near the water. And the final pic is of Mystic Pizza which was the inspiration for the Julia Roberts movie "Mystic Pizza". After strolling the town and it's shops we capped the night off with pizza and drinks at Mystic Pizza. In the pic of the downtown you can see in the background a drawbridge which was built in 1920 and is raised up every so often to let boats pass through.

Mystic looks a really nice place.
What I like about smaller towns compared to cities, is the slower pace and people make time to speak to each other.
Altogether a much more friendly and laid back fashion.

Originally, back in the days of whaling ships, Mystic was a shipbuilding town but in more modern times developed their tourist industry. Loaded with tourists in summer but quiet and peaceful in the off season. Away from the nice little downtown is Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium, two popular spots.
