can a Garrett Pro-Pointer be fine tuned

Can a Garrett Pro-Pointer be fine tuned after the general area (a hole) is created ?
I find it is so sensitive, within a few inches of the object, it will increase in vibration but the object is still difficult to locate. Or is it also responding to minerals in the soil, such as rust which has broken down to a powder state ?

It can be fine tuned to a point. Dig the plug and locate the target. While the Pro Pointer will sound off if its within 3-4 inches of the target you can turn it off and back on in the hole and it won't sound off again till your directly on top of the target. Its called detuning I think. There is a video on YouTube showing this trick.
