Coil selection help please

#1
Hi there, Just picked up a Prizm 5. (It has not arrived yet)

It comes with a Bigfoot, but no other coils. I am considering getting the 8" or the little 4X6 DD coil.

I will only be hunting for coins and jewlrey at the local park and at homesites.

I have used both coils before on the DFX,XLT and XL Pro.

But from what I have read, the Prizm is a different animal than these detectors.

Please share your thoughts and advise as to which coil to get first.

P.S. If you have any used coils for sell, do let me know please!

Thanks

-Ken

Welcome to TQ, the best dang site anywhere. Someone will be along to answer your coil question. I am no help since I run an Ace 250.

I am thinking about getting the prizm 6T (comes with 9" spider coil) and the 6x4 DD with it. The smaller coil is supposed to be great on the prizm models for tot lots, sidewalks, and fence lines. The larger coils more for open less trashy places. These are fit my needs, yours may be totally different. HH CG

Thank you!

Thank you for the reply! I have aquired all of the coils for it, even a Bigfoot, but I still need a stock coil for it. I am hoping one will pop up used. Anyways, it's a great detector and the 6X4 works better on it than it does on the XL PRO, DFX or XLT! So yes, the 4x6 is a fabulous coil for this rig!

Thanks again -Ken

Prizm V Coils

I don't know if this post is still active, but I am interested in this question as well. Have a Prizm V, been detecting since 07. It has the coil it came with, the 950. Which coils can I put on it, and what are the benefits to each? I detect on the beach(dry sand) and alot in yards, parks, etc... Thanks in advance for the advice!

Howdy

Hi Steve!

It has been a while since my original post. 2 years ago I think? Anyhow, I recently sold my Prizm and I am planning on getting an AT Pro. I sold all of my coils except for the 8" which is on my shelf. The 950 is good for areas that don't have a lot of trash. The 5.3 is the winner for tot lots and high trash areas. I would highly suggest you get an 8". It's small enough so that the target separation is really good in high trash areas, while still maintaining almost if not the same depth as the 950. It is also big enough to hunt a home site. Once I put mine on, I never took it off if that tells you anything! You should be able to find them used for around $50 bucks. I hope this helps!

Welcome to TQ. If I were only getting one more coil it would be the eight inch. It is the best one on that unit for overall hunting IMHO.
