Was wonderin if anybody has used one, whats the depth ?? can it punch the signal through the grass ? and if so , to how deep? How does it affect battery life on your machine? I'd be putting it on my MXT. I've been using a bullseye and it seems to be weak, an inch or two is max. I'm thinkin the sunray would be better, cause I'm kinda gettin to like the pinpointer, when it saves ya from diggin a plug, most of the time I can pop out the shallow coins (up to 2 1/2" deep) any comments/info appreciated, also the list price is like $179, wheres the hottest deal/ best price, on one right now?? thanks, Rich.
The DX-1 is one of the best on the market. It uses your detector battery and does not run it down since it is only on when in use. Am I to understand that you are using your Bullseye to probe out coins ? If so this is not the intended use of the pinpointer. It is supposed to be used once the plug is removed and you want to pinpoint the target in the hole so damage does not occur to it. It gets up to 4" depth.
Have a DX1 on both my and my wifes MXT.. They are great!! Depth seems to be around 3 inches but with practice and learning just how it sounds might be a little better. Like with your detector or any new piece of equipment there is a learning curve but cause it's hooked to your machine it's like using the MXT with a 1 inch coil. I've noticed no increase in power consumption on the batteries. They really cut down on your digging time, really narrows down the target. I have no regrets on putting down the cash..
Tony, I'm using the bullseye in the hole to locate coins, on the shallow targets, I just pick a spot slightly offcenter, drive my digger through the sod, then pry up, just enough to slide the bullseye underneath. Usually on the shallow coins, I can locate them fast this way, then pop them out with my pointy Ames digger, it has about a one inch tapered tip, on the digger. My problem with the bullseye is I want to pinpoint through the grass, on shallow coins, the bullseye seems to lack the power needed, to do this efficiently. If the sunray is good to 4", it oughta have enough power to pinpoint through the grass roots, to say like a depth of 2 1/2" ??? Rich.
Here in NJ I use the dx1 in school yards and I get over a inch through the grass to pop coins out with a modified screwdriver.It could be deeper up to your 2 inches but not that much more if you are using it in pinpoint mode.I have 2 dfx's with dx1's on both and love them.
Forgot to add if you do use it as a motion mode 1 inch coil it will go down 4+ inches,but at that depth, I'll cut a plug as a exact deadon point to probe and touch the target takes longer to recover.It takes me around 30 second's from finding a target to bringing it up to the top.Sometime's I feel like I'm using a stethoscope just moving it around till the target respounds the loudest.
Thanks, thats kinda the information I was looking for, sounds like it will cut down recovery time for sure.
2010 update: The DX-1 works awesome on the MXT Pro. On the pro you dont have to hold the trigger to be in "Pinpoint Mode",,,,you just push the trigger forward !! this was done by Whites to make the DX-1 easier to use on the detector.Now you can hold the plug back with one hand,,and use the pointer with the other hand !!!! Way To Go WHITE'S !!! :bthumb:
