I don't currently own any insulators but I'm really drawn to this forum and I know I'm going to end up with some even if I have to climb the pole. I know there are some experts on here with great pics and stories. Would any of you mind a brief overview of values (colors, mfgrs, sizes)and maybe recommend a book or site for pricing these little gems?

First I would suggets looking on your local library website and see if they have any books on insulators that may include pricing. You can also check book stores in your area and see if they have one that serves your needs. If I'm not mistaken, when I was in a Borders books the other day, it seems that I saw a book on insulators, but since I wasn't in the market, I didn't check it out. They are closing and books are reduced, so if you have one in your area it might be good to check it out. GL, pc

Yea you also can try www.Insulators.info web site. They have price guides for sale off and on. But just because it says an items is valued at X $ doesn't mean there is a buyer. and also doesn't mean you have to pay that amount. That site also has all the insulator shows. Were tons of collectors get together to sale there extras. you can get some very nice peices at low cost. and there always making deals, You should never pay the price marked on it at the table. I've seen an insulator sell for about $6,000.00 on ebay all the way down to a buck. so good luck ☺

Hey I was just there last week. WAY in the back there was a display with about 6-8 glass insulators still mounted on the wooden arm. I think they want about $40.00 for the whole thing. Didn't write down the details. Pretty cool place!

Thanks for the info by the way. The pricing on web sites at least gives an idea of relative pricing and which insulators to look for when if you see any.

That is totally awesome. I've never removed one so I assume they just unscrew? What is the pole you are using? Is it home made?
