Good for you Zip. Congrat's to you on the order of the new Max. Keep us informed on what you think.
Well, So far, My wife let me know it was her son's Birthday, so I gave him mine ( he is a good man and deserve an upgrade from his 2 entry level Bounty Hunters). The frequency adjustment (4 of them) is a blessing. The wireless headphones are great. So far in "coin's" mode, they crack and pop (I think it is the discriminated targets). But I am not finished testing out the Max. I am going to try using the "Zero" mode and see if that changes things. We have only spent about 2 hours with the Max and as time goes on, I can honestly give you a better "Low Down" on the Max. It is just too soon to give an unbiased opinion :) . the next month will be a busy month. Between my skin cancer treatments and my wife's cataract surgery, we will be taking it easy for October. My wife did need the upgrade from her Ace 250 and so far she loves the Max. I still like my MXT A/P . The Max is much lighter than the MXT, and her being 74 the lighter Garrett's are perfect :)

If you ever find that one is enough ;) i see some dealers will post o/s (y) local dealers are still asking $1200 + fora pro :censored:
OH ! that's $1200.00 Aus ! I just noticed that you live in SA. One price here for the Pro is $578.00 USD but prices vary in different locations here :)

On You Tube, so far Garrett has 3 video's. type in the you tube search box "AT Max instructional video" to go to them fast. It also included ground balance in wet and dry salt sand (video #3) :)

Wife and I went out swingin (Detectors LOL ) First thing I noticed her Max was in freq 1 and I had crosstalk with my MXT A/P and she didn't. Whites needs to incorporate a freq shift too. Another thing is when over what you think is a bottle cap (you turn on the "Iron Audio" on the max and you get a growl, beep growl (Which tells you that it is a bottle cap) and the MXT you have to dig to find out (another bit of software that the MX Series could use). Other than that the MXT is great. The screen angle on the max seems to be lower and not too easy to see (for a long armed tall guy) Tilting the Max control box would make it difficult to impossible to remove the batteries on the Max. As for a depth test, We don't bother testing because we don't have the time or location to bother with that. :)

I was wondering what some of your views are on Garrett's all new AT Max. It is my understanding that the new Max detector pretty much combines the AT PRo and the AT Gold. The detector like the previous ones is waterproof and submersible up to 10 feet. The Max is set up with wireless headphones which is nice, but you still need to use the corded waterproof headphones when going in the water. The new Max also has a Threshold option like the AT Gold. This seems to take the best of both The Pro and the Gold and combine them into a new redesigned detector. I just don't know if it will be that much difference between the two to justify the price increase. Any thoughts regarding this?
KRose,
I did some looking around on the Internet and came up with some videos put out by Garrett. They have a 3-part instructional video out on YouTube.
The addresses are:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF6KSr9ik5A (5:09) AT MAX Instructional Video Part 1 (US Version)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6FlnyEgboE (15:22) AT MAX Instructional Video Part 2 (US Version)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2Sysjpev2w (14:22) AT MAX Instructional Video Part 3 (US Version)

You can also go to YouTube and enter a search for Garrett AT Max for other videos on this new detector. Nice thing about YouTube, you don't have to sign up to view these videos.

I was concerned about the coils that I have for my AT Pro and Garrett informed me the coils for the AT PRO/Gold will work with the new AT Max. This is good.
The Z-Lynx ear phones are charged by a USB connector. Can charge via your computer, or any other USB charge port. It takes about 5-hours to fully charge.
The Max detects at a greater depth. I could go on and on, but one can go to Garrett's website and obtain more information and/or go to YouTube to view different videos
to obtain specific detector information. You get 20-hours of battery life to a new set of AA Batteries.

I hope this basic information and addresses will help people out learning about the new AT Max.

For you Whites owners, the AT Max "Zero" Mode is like "Alternate Mode" on the MXT (All Metal and Discrimination at the same time) . It's hard for me to explain, so just look in your MXT manual for mixed mode and all will be answered :) MXT Pro & All Pro use "Two Tone" and adjust discrimination to your needs.

Soooo, what yer saying Zip is that the screen on the new AT MAX would be easy for me to read.....seeing how I'm short and short armed. I am appalled and my feelings hurt. Attention all monitors. Lol Yhall' know I'm pulling your chain.....I have no feelings. I'm glad that yhall' are liking the AT MAX. Best of luck to you with it.

Yeah, I didn't care for the angle of the screen. My wife is a short shit and the screen is just fine for her. She loves the large VDI numbers. We have a club meeting tonight (Riverside Treasure Hunters Club (Detecting)) (club is 50 years old this year) Jeff Williams is our guest speaker tonight ( "Cmon, Let's Go ! ") He will cover nugget hunting and prospecting :)

Good luck with the new machines! I'm sticking to my old machines, but I only get around salt water now to eat seafood, fish, and go in pawn shops. I never found much at salt beaches, even though I used very salt-capable machines when I did.

To be honest with you I bought the 2nd Max for me and I didn't like it. The Max may be the most powerful of the VLF AT machines (pro, gold, max) But no way, no how is the Max gonna see deeper than my MXT a/p Not Ever ! :) my wife is happy with the Max and that's all that matters :) That is my opinion and my opinion only and I won't respond or create any Whites/Garrett detector war.....

Best of luck to you with the new Max with many found treasures.
Cheers , (y) I have had 3 at pros since they came out, i think each one once you got to know them had their own quirks and personallity, but all good machines. The new at max will be fun i think but i wont be so lucky to find a gold ring on my second find as i did with my pro!

The Max arrived today, batteries already fitted it did not take long to do a quick first test. The Z lynk headphones are awesome. First test showed the Max has a clearer tone , second test with a gold ring showed the Max to have better depth as i expected. Very happy, still keeping the pro as a back up.

Thanks , i found the max really is a completely different machine to the pro, but they both have their benefits. At the beach pretty much ground balancing manually all the time with the changing conditions. I did get a good signal right on the shore line but unfortunately i couldn't dig it because i only had my mini shovel with me grrrrrr , must carry the larger one next time .
