I'm interested in watching how it all comes along for you ATW. Sounds like a good hobby if one has the space. I didn't realize there were so many different species of pigeons. The wild ones the hang around bridges here I believe I have seen called rock pigeons. After that I know nothing about them.

Go on line Too,,
Check out the different breeds of pigeons.
There are Racing pigeons, Show birds, and flying breeds. Your mind is stuck on the wild or ferral pigeon. We call those Clinkers or flying rats. The "Flights" that I am talking about can be trained to land only on your coop. If conditioned properly, they can stay in flight, over your coop for 2 to 3 hours at a time. They are also an attractive bird and are sometimes bred for certain colors like yellow or red. Some of the show birds can cost as much as $500. The son or daughter of a winning racing pigeon can be worth thousands.
They say all dogs descended from the wolf.
Through selected breeding, certain breeds of dog evolved. The German Shepard, collie, wolfhound, poodle, etc, are all said to be descendent of the wolf.
My question is,, where did the chihuahua come from? lol

Kepted Pigeons don't hang around pooping on everything. LOL They do their Flying and spend the rest of their time hanging out in the coop. When I was a kid a friend raised them. He had like up to 700 at one time.

Thanks for the explanation !! We have quite a few in our town, and flocks of them fly around, I'm guessing maybe 30 at a time. People have got in trouble for feeding them, ( including my aunt ) at one time lol. They are a good looking bird. I hope you put lots of pics in here when you get things going. They used to get in my uncles old warehouse, and do their ( thing ) on everything, he paid me to shoot them. I ate one once, and admit, not too bad.

Like most edible critters the City Slickers Pigeons don't taste as good as the Corn, Pea and Milo fed do. Like I said, They Taste Yummy. Better then anything you would find in the Grocery under the name of Cornish Game Hens. They feed them Crap. Like the store Chickens or any meats now day nothing taste like it use too. You have me going now. I'm getting me some Pigeons. The Eggs are on then more then small size but again taste like Real Chicken Eggs. Just need three to one. This coop would support at least 50 birds. I would just need to provide a landing platform.

Chicken Scratch is like $7.00 for 40lb here. That would last about a week with 30-50 birds. My guess is once things get rolling I could havest at least one or two birds a week. That would provide Better then store product and I would know what they have ate. GRAIN ! Not ground up cow bones and carian. Pigeons are scavengers if they get hungry . LOL like we people. Yep, I can do this. I would need to devide the Coop into two sections. Breeders and Flyers. I have Zero Interest in racing or competition but flying is what they need to do. Pigeons are crazy about that. You loose them and they will fly orbits around home for hours and at sun down come back to roost. If your interested in Long Flyers, let them fly the orbits for a month or so. Take them 100 miles away and loose them. In less then a week most will show back up in your coop. Those that don't met Mr Hawk or other hazards. Some take their time or get spun around I guess and take longer but make it home.

Great eating if you like dark meat! Every year my brother and his crew would head out to the country road bridges and flush them and shoot them on the fly. Good pre season practice for ring neck pheasants. He also had a dozen or so in a coop on the 3rd floor porch of our bar/hotel.

It will be just perfect here today except I have to help the wife get stuff out for a garage sale Friday and Saturday. Did I say I hate garage sales? Yes I am one of those who only consider stuff in garage sales junk even though I know ONCE in a blue moon people do get something nice. It just isn't my thing and I avoid them. Now I have to have one, arrrrrrrr!
