WWI army uniform button?

#1
I was hunting in the woods today and dug this old Tunic button up.

On the back I can see "New York", but can't read the other words.

It measures about 1-1/8" in diameter and is about 1/4" thick.

I believe this is from WWI. Can anyone date this button?

Other than this, I found a old horse shoe about 12" deep. horse shoe nails etc.

Thanks for looking.

Great Seal Button

That is most definetly a 20th century button.. According to Alphaeus Albert's book RECORD OF AMERICAN UNIFORM AND HISTORICAL BUTTONS (pg. 42 that motif was first put on military buttons in 1902. The New York on the back of the button can be referenced to one of two button manufacturers, H.V. Allien & Co. N.Y or Dusenbury &Schwab Inc. See if you can make out one of those names on back.

Hope this helps.

Found this through a Google search, and the guy with the info is a local digger ... fyrfftyr1. Dug a #22 (from his list) Am Button Co cuff button in downtown Albany GA. Across the street was a 1881 Victoria British Penny!! Gotta love curb strips!!
