Default Arrowhead

Would this arrowhead while going through my wife's grandfather's stuff.
5 inches long, 1 inch wide and about 3/8 thick.
Interesting part is there is a twist knapped into it instead of just a straight arrowhead.

beautiful find, even though you did not find it in a field or someplace like that, you did find it noe the less!!
Great looking arrowhead, do you have any idea when it is from or what type it is?
Happy Hunting,

That's kind of what I thought. You really have to have it in your hands turning it to full appreciate the workmanship.
I do a little knapping myself, just starting and my attempts are crude, rude and socially unexceptable.. The craftsmanship to get the twist in that point is amazing.

Default Serrated Edges

Normally the serrated edges would indicate a cutting tool. The twist is incidental to the original shape taken from the core material.
It is more likely a Knife, and what a knife it is!
The obsidian material is found in some abundance along the inland West coastal areas of the U.S. and to some extent into the Southwest U.S. up through Colo.
Great find, congrats on the re-discovery.

Default its a drill

i used to dig arrowheads as a kid in WV. we found those preety regular though. quite a find when the whole thing is intact like that. we always assumed it was a drill for leather work or light wood work. a friend of mine that recently died alway told us they were drills. he was an amature archeologist. the description works so that is always what we called them
