Default Imprint of a fossil

Had a chance to go to my sister's property in Crockett County to day here in Texas.
Close to the Pecos River.
For the most part alot of wide open space.
Some of the properties still have caves that were inhabited by the Indians. Artifacts are found.
I didn't find and arrowheads or anything like that. I understand some of the properties were scanned over by people before the property was sold. So it will take more looking to find items. I'm there is quite alot still there. Just have to look.

But I did come across this. Thought it looked like an imprint of a fossil. Possibly a snail. They do find items like this in the area.

Any confirmation of or opinions on this.

This is one side.

That's for the comment. Makes me happy to get a positive vote on the fossil.
Just a wild guess on the life form.

Thankyou JCWhite,

Doug

Myself included.
But the more time I spend on this forum the more I learn to question what I am looking at.
A couple years ago I would have not even paid attention to that rock.
But now, esp. when I get into a more rural area I'm looking at every tree, rock and basically everything for a sign. And asking: Is it a fossil? Is it s good place to detect? I wonder if early settlers buried something here?
I've learn so much being here.

It's hard to believe (the way the area looks now) that it was once covered by ocean...I have a good friend in Del Rio who collects fossils - and has a tremendous collection he collected from all around south Texas.

I'm exactly like you described, now that I've become involved with TQ - I look at EVERYTHING with the question.."Wonder what that used to be...or that would have been a good place to stash something..." Drives my wife crazy sometimes - but she's getting as bad as me!

Happy Hunting!

That sure does look like a fossil of some sort of crustacean. I don't know much, but when I was little, we would find all sorts of little fossils down by land between the lakes.

Great eye!
