Default Where's the points?

I know there is a history of indians in new york but I have yet to find any points anywhere. Am I looking in the wrong places or were the points made mainly in the south and bought north for hunting? What types of stone was suitable for arrowheads in new york? I've found points and even an axe head in a kentucky farm field, but nothing at all up here. Jason

Default they are there somewhere..

...see if there is a archeology club around. check for books about the indians in your area. look for archeological reports about different sites. i will see what i can find out to help you.

Oh sorry Tom I forgot to mention in my e-mail that I do have terraserver and terra client as well. I can overlay topo's on top of sattelite imagery. Its a great program that allows me to get coordinates on outstanding features in the landscape that isn't on the topo maps. Jason

Check with the local Geologist to see if there are any Obsidian (sp) or Flint deposits in the area. That would be my first line of attack.

Default thats a good idea.

New York may have a mineral map like we do in W.Va. It is always close to coal in W.Va. look for pits by exposed veins, i can only compare what they may have done up in N.Y. with what they did here.seems better quality flint is under ground. i have seen pits where flint was mined in W.Va.

hey Ausablebill,,,,i want to find a obsidian point or tool so baaaaaaaaad. very very rare here. Adena indians had some from Yellowstone but I have only read of it.probably buried them in their mounds.
