Default New find

Hi Tom,
I dug this stone today and there is none like it around the area it was found.

It is very smooth. Could it be?

Being that it was from a homestead and not an indian site. I'd say maybe a kid grabbed it up from a trip to the river. Maybe they used it as a door stop. It might very well have been a small hand grinder for flour. Maybe there's another one, a matching set. A husband/wife tamer lol. Gotta love those big smooth river rocks. Maybe a dry wash close by that you don't know about either. Could be gold in them thar' hills. Wish you luck on finding it. Cool site and finds, keep tearing it up greg. HH Jason

Default Marker stone

It may very well be a marker stone I have read many articals where people would hide stuff under stone or would use them as markers to locat ther cache faster You never know may need to check area really well. Or maybe a another treasure hunter found the treasure and left the stone Noy sure but I would be hitting that area hard though

Thanks Will Lane

Thanks guys, no marks on it Tom. This stone was dug in a cellar hole. There was an Indian camp (Large) on the hill by my neighbors spring house. I bet there's points everywhere here but I need someone to come down and show me how its done.

but they may be tough to find in the woods. Unless it has been bulldozed or plowed.

It certainly looks like it has been water washed for centuries. If you wet it and look at it with a large magnifier, can you see any faded designs or markings? Think you are into a good area.

I;ll give that a try, there was no reason this stone should've been there unless it was used for something.. maybe they heated the stone up and used it for a heating pad
