Some type of volcanic rock? Just a guess. Pretty neat what ever it is.

It very well may be coral BUT to me it looks to be a petrified wasp nest right down to where the stem would be on the back side.

No John I haven't found any fish yet...lol....I appreciate everyones' responses. I'm not sure what it is but I think its cool....I believe it warrants a spot on the shelf.....

Sorry for the delayed reply but I'm thinking coral as well? Maybe a type of brain coral but in this case we'll call it wasp nest coral.....LOL
For sure TN had sea creatures swimming about many year ago!!
