Default tips needed

I am new to the whole MD/point hunting, and wanted to get some tips on what and where to look for points and artifacts. I know that there were native americans in my area, but really do not know where to start. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When i hunt for artifacts i look for hills within 1 mile of a water source. Indians had to have water just like we do. Bean fields are great. Im not sure where you live but there were indians all over our country. Look for flint. Flint comes in MANY different colors. Dont just look for points! You may miss some cool stuff. When im detecting i look at an old map that i found at the Historical Society in my county. Look for heavy traffic back in the day. Hope this helps!!!!

I'm not familiar with your area, but I agree with tater. I always look on hills (don't have to be large, just nice rises) close to creeks and rivers. And flint does come in many, many colors. Seeing a lot of chips in a field is a good indicator you may find something in that field. Not every time, but sometimes.

This time of year is good because farmers are starting to till fields and that turns things up. Then after a rain is a great time aas the dust is washed off flint/points making them easier to see. Also keep an eye out for any other kind of rocks as there may be axes, celts or other types of stone artifacts. Good luck.

Also you should know it usually takes a while to find anything. I usually find one every hour. More if it's a good place, less if it's not.
