Default Parkin AR.

No MDing allowed here but its a cool spot to visit. If you think about it, it kind of a "ghost town". Conquistador Hernando de Soto documented his visit here on his tour of the southeast in the mid-1500's. This is one of the few places where the documents can be matched to the exact location and actual artifacts have been found from his expedition. During his visit the area was in the midst of a long drought. The chief of the area asked de Soto to have his priest ask God for rain. After they held communion it begin to rain. The chief and several hundred natives converted to Christianity and a huge cypress cross was erected at the top of the largest mound, the remains of which where rediscovered in the early 1990's with the help of ground penetrating sonar. In the early 19000's a logging camp was built on top of the location of the village. Oddly enough this helped preserve the location because it sealed it off from agriculture industry and the massive amounts of saw dust produced buried several important features. Heres some pics of our visit..
