Default Cahokia Mounds.......

I live near these mounds which are located near the St Louis metro area. They are one of the biggest mound complexes in North America. Its a very informative place to visit if you enjoy Native American artifacts. Heres a few pics of my own and some links..

When we were kids living in Indiana, we would go to Lake of the Ozarks, MO each year for vacation...passing thru the St. Louis area one year - we stopped to visit this site...I was young - but enjoyed it!

I think they probably taxed people. They probably said" if you want to do business in our town you must deliver a certain number of baskets of dirt to the temple" and over the years it just added up. They think 20,ooo plus people lived there at the time of its greatest population.

Nice photos! I haven't been there for several years and should get back there again. The last time I went I was with two other people and we were on our way back from a ballgame. I could have spent a lot more time there but they were ready to go so we did. I need to get back to Kampsville, too. I used to attend some programs there but haven't for years.
