Hey Tom, Nice Find! I may be wrong but I tend to think your artifact to be a knapped celt. The hammer stones (what I call them) are more rounded and used to actually grind/make artifacts (arrowheads, blades, knives, etc). Please accept my apologies if I am wrong about your piece! I'm trying to get back into the groove with these Indian Artifacts as they have been collecting dust for around 20 year. My mind has grown some in different places of interest since then, but I'm trying to get back!

I'm going to post a scan dedicated to TOMWV shortly! It's my found drills and parts of. Not trying to be rude, just wanting you to see the drills in my collection. I think there are neat!

I have my whole collection scattered through out the house: some drying from washing in the kitchen, bed covered from emptied boxes and the livingroom floor covered as well. Just not enough time in one day to catch up for 20 year of absence!

Hoping Everyone The Best Of Luck Digging/Looking In 2006,
Happy Hunting, Show Your Finds, Roger

Default I Stand Corrected

and apologized before hand if I were wrong. The scan doesn't show the pitting (hammer marks) and from my point of view it "looks" like a flint celt.
