Great eyes Greg! This appears to be a worked piece of Quartz to me! The type is unknown to me but it has been worked!

This appears to be an unfinished point size would indicate dart point. They are still a good collectable.
I do have a few pre-forms and finished points in quartz but much larger. I found them in the Pecos area of Texas. I have a few made of agate from the same area. Your's may be agate. The dark inclusions are not common in quartz. Congrats Out4gold |

That arrowpoint is very similar to one I found about 25 years ago over in Gilroy, California. I was working at a place that grew flowers and vegetables for seed research and I was out in a field using a long-handled hoe. The field was next to a small river or a creek and the Costanoan (I think) Indians had been around that area once upon a time. As I worked the dirt with the hoe to mark an area for a plot, I caught a glance of something white. Most of the arrowpoints found in the area were dark, but not volcanic glass like obsidian.
As a side note, I, too, discovered an arrowpoint from gravel that had been purchased and scattered in our driveway. It was a black obsidian one from Sierra region. So, this is what I dug up, guess it is quartz, too:

Hey Toxic,
I'm uncertain of the grade of the point you have shown? If it is Quartz then it would be in the grade I consider to be Rose Quartz but I seem to think it is of a different type of stone all together. I may be wrong but your point looks like a couple that I picked up several year ago. The stone (and I say "stone" because I didn't document the material it was made from) is not Native to this area (TN) and was very hard to work! I will try my best to remember to contact another person to tell me the proper name for the type material I'm thinking about and a scan of the pieces that I found. The type of Chert, Flint, or Other Material doesn't matter to me......just the Fact of picking up something that old that a Human made to provide food or protection and the skill used to produce the Point/Artifact is what amazes Me! Continued Good Luck To All Lookers/Diggers, HH, Roger
