Labret?

Hi All!
I found this "plug"? while diggin along the Ohio River on the West Virginia side.
It measures 1" aross by 1/2" and is approx. 3/4" long. And has HEAVY patina around it.
I understand the Eskimos wore "Lip Labrets".
If this isn't a labret what would it be?

I found this in the same area as the axe head. I also found a small glass bead, a clay bead and one that I think is metal.
I just didn't know what else it could possibly be.
But I'm wondering how it got here. I mean, I have been told that only the Eskimos and Native Africains wore this type of ornament.
Maybe one was visiting?...LOL!

It may be an ear plug as the indians wore those also.

I didn't think about it being an ear plug or spool because the ones I have seen all seem to be round. I could be one though!
