Default Black Hills SD arrowheads

My father found many arrowheads in a cave on our property out side the town of Hot Springs SD. Most were not finished. The one pictured here was found still connected to its shaft. I had to re-secure it using fishing line. Other items in pictures are Hawaiian Adze that I found on a farm in Kula Maui where I worked and lived. The adze are made from (blue lava rock) the hardest lava rock on the planet. There was a out cropping of blue rock in a gultch next to a flower farm I supervised. Many small chips of blue rock were scattered over a large area. I think it was a Hawaiian adze factory. Other stone marbles called (ula mika) were found. Hawaiians used them as a game, kinda like our marbles.

That is very cool. Have you ever had a museum look at them to see how old they are?

Default Hawaiian Adze & SD arrowheads

Hi dry-wash. I have not had anyone look at the adze. I live on Maui and really never thought about having a museum look at them. It would be a nice idea to take them to Oahu next time I go. Thank you for the suggestion. I really like that. The adze on the bottom would have been about 3 to 4 inches longer. Aloha, Rocke

Default Hawaiian treatures

Hi Free2Dtect.
I have been on all the island but it was before I had a detector or I had my wife with me and she wanted the hotel pool I have been all over Maui and know every area you talk about. I have seen many very large caves above the south shore and Makena. I have ridden my dirt bike through the lava fields and found old graves. But never went in them. I do know of the cave your talking about in the Makena area. If anyone would ever come out of there with artifacts the Hawaiians and Hawaiian goverment would be on them like flys on poo. I know of old dumps in Maliko gultch. Also a old steam train thats never found. Some friend of mine went looking for old dumps along the east shore towards Hana. The road is high on the mountain side and was built for the east Maui water project to bring water to the dry central valley during the 1840's when crops were grown to feed the miners during the calf gold rush. Also water for the sugar can fields. My friend got into a old town, more like a gost town. Someone started taking pot shots at them with a shotgun so that search ended. I know of a story that, right after the bombing of Pearl Harbor a japanese family loaded a small plane with a large amount of family gold and silver & jewerly. After take off the plane crashes in the west area of the West Maui Mountains. You also mentioned the battles in Iao Valley. These mountains are so dense with growth that in the 1940's a team of 9 National Geographic scientest were lost and never found. The ancient Hawaiians used a valley on the Lahaina side of the island to travel to the central valley. I have been into some areas of the West Maui mountains and its all knife edge ridges. Straight down 1,000's of feet with sink holes every where. The old Hawaiian trails have never been found. Some say they found the old Hawaiian trail but they could never prove it. I found my first bottle in Iao Valley and found some Maui diamonds (clear quartz) in the stream. I will be taking all the areas you mention and start looking in those areas on Maui. Will have to check out the Big Island next time I go there. I will let you know what I find. I am waiting on my TIGER SHARK detector from Treasue Hut. I cant wait. Rocke
