Hello...

I'm new to the forum and not quite new to metal detecting. Recently sold my motorcycle in search of a more family oriented hobby. I remember back to when I was younger I saw somebody with a metal detector and thought about how cool it would be to find some old civil war relics and such. So... now I'm starting some research into how to get started in this hobby. I've been in the Marine Corps for almost 13 years and I'm married with two children. I'm stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS and I'm looking forward to getting started...

Bobby

Default Hey Bobby

Welcome to TQ. Boobie is right, this is a family hobby if you want it to be and can be a group hobby if you want to go with friends and can be a do by yourself hobby if you just feel like a relaxing quiet hunt. Your gonna love it. Good luck picking out a detector. I started with an ACE 250 and it got me hooked.

Default Welcome

Nice to have you here. I think you will really enjoy the forum and the hobby. You'll find alot a friendly and helpful folks here on the forum.

You picked a great place to start your hunting. I grew up just a couple hours west of Biloxi. While growing up we would always hear stories of hidden treasures in some of the back bay areas (pirate bootie from Jean Lafitte). I never did any research but it might be worth looking into.

Good luck and Happy Hunting.

Thanks for the replies. As of right now, I really have no idea what kind of machine to look for. I guess I want something all purpose and inexpensive to start with. If I end up liking detecting, I'll upgrade to a better machine. I'd really be happy with a good used machine at a great price. Like I said in my original post, I'm just getting started on research so my knowledge is slim to none on this topic. That's where the forum comes in! I'm looking forward to getting started. Thanks again.

Your thoughts are correct Ranger. I'm looking for something to get started with. Nothing too fancy. Just a machine that will get me started and give me decent results to keep my interest up. Price is another topic. Like I said previously, I don't want to tie up too much money and end up not taking to the hobby.
