Hi all, i been trying to read some post to lift my spirits but at no revail it didnt work and this is the only other way to get this bothering issue off my chest (sory to do this to all you ) today i was hunting in a neighbor hood ball field i was there for about 10 minutes havent even got into any thing yet , next thing i know i have a police officer walking towards me ! ot oh here we go....... any way it seems that there was a bout 6 or 7 holes dug that was not filled back in , yes the officer showed them to me . at first i thought to myself that some local kids was here messing around or something but the officer said that a neighbor seen a person with a metal detector that dug the holes ( i thought no way ) but i talked to the officer and told him i was being trained by a professional on how to hunt and the proper way to dig and fill in a hole ,i also showed him i must say i think he was impressed at that point . i told him there was a frw other fields and places in his township that we liked to hund and we didnt wanna lose that privliage. i told him i would fix the holes if that was ok with him he said ok . so i had to go get a bucket of dirt (from home) and a shovel and spent 2 hours filling in what i thought could have even been gopher holes ? but i was curious i took my ACE 250 and checked the holes 3 of the 8 holes had coins within a (1) inch from them ! go figure not only a rude ,inconcideriate person with a detector but a blind, deaf one at that. Anyway to save the day all holes are filled and still alowed to hunt there ! All this the only thing i would like to know is where did all the origanial dirt go ? KEEP ON DIGGING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KKFRY

You did a good thing and probably saved a digging site. If you ever catch the other detectorist you should take the lost dirt out of his hide, or you could teach them the right way...either works just depending on your mood.

Angry

Hey Kevin

Been there done that. Might have been the same cop . Not all of them are as accusing. Some of them will ask first. One guy I talked to told me about the group in the "white truck" that damaged his field. He calmed down quickly when he realized I was a lot older and drove a maroon Blazer and didn't leave beer cans. I've filled in a coupla holes in Brighton Twp on general principal.

Thanks
Leo

Cool

Hey Boobie and Kevin

There is a nice ending. I asked him if he wanted a try, and he said no, "Too Busy". Then I told him I was about to dig a sound I was suspicious of and showed him how I cut a plug, found a nice wire tie piece from the chain link fence , and then put the plug back in the hole. He liked that. Then I told him I dug about a half a dozen other holes and challenged him to find them and he kind of smiled and couldn't so I showed him. He left happy . Who knows maybe in time he will show up here. Now that would reall make a nice ending.

Thanks
Leo

Hey kkfry, I think you handled that well.

I was approached once by a policeman when detecting a fire company fairgrounds (with permission). I think only because he was interested in detecting. Talked for a while and then I offered to help to find evidence if needed and also did to my local PD. Never called and I think most departments have a detector now.

Always gonna be a small percentage of those who will hurt this hobby by doing things like that. You did a Great Thing by fixing all the holes And explaining to the officer about it. Only wish for you that there would have been a Gold Coin in one of those holes to reward you for your efforts! If I ever see Someone doing ANYTHING to hurt this Hobby I'll pull a Boobie on them in a Heartbeat!

Good Luck & HH.

Hey kkfry, you should feel uplifted by this experience because you were able to let the officer know that these people were the exception instead of the rule. Good for you!!! Now, stop feeling yucky and go out and HUNT.
