Default Know the signs

Hi all, I have been generally quiet on this forum (shy by nature i guess) but, I would like to say something to all you wonderful people on this site. Something that is very near and dear to me, and really hit home once again.
I'm a heart attack survivor, which I'm sure there are many here. I was 35 when it happened, not over weight, played soccer and was in decent shape. My point is, I ignored ALL of the warning signs, the subtle ones as well as the HELLOOO something is wrong here ones. It is purely by the grace of God that I am typing this right now.I was very very lucky( I'm also able to watch my son grow up now). Since then, I have lost a couple of people that I knew, all apparently had the signs and didn't get looked at. Last weekend, my cousin of 50 who had a four yr old daughter died on the golf course from a heart attack. Talking with the my family it was brought out that he was complaining of chest pains for quite a while. Thought it acid reflux....

My point is, please if your not feeling right, and anything with chest pains or dizzyness please, please, see a cardiologist. Many cases people can be saved as there are great advancements in the area of cardiology. Heart Disease does not target any specific age group!! Sorry about the long post, been a tough week! Thanks all, I really enjoy this forum and am amazed at all the wonderful people around the country and out of it that are all in one place. My other family......TQ - God Bless all! Dave

Thanks Dave - I just got word yesterday that a good friend just underwent triple bypass surgery...he's in ICU - but everything seems to be going well - and he's in stable condition...

Your words are well taken - all of us from time to time find ourselves alone and out in the middle of nowhere hunting for treasure...if we think "something" could be a problem (chest pain, dizziness, etc) we owe it to our loved ones (and ourselves) to find out what the problem is, and deal with it before it becomes a really serious problem - and find ourselves in a situation where it's too late...

Thanks again - and I'm glad to hear that you're doing so well, now.

I completely agree with in that I am trained regularly in First Aid and CPR and I ran Fire and Rescue for 25 years. The first thing that everyone does is go into denial! The warning signs can mimick many other symtoms to other illnesses, however you should react when the signs appear. With todays modern medicine many people can be saved that refused to recognize the warning signs. In reality if you wait until you require CPR it will probably be to late. Over 80% of the people that require CPR do not make it. So I agree entirely with you. Thank you for sharing this with us and hopefully alot of people with take the time to read the post and give it alot of thought.

Dave I am glad to hear you are doing well!

Thanks for the reminder. I had chest pains at work last year, and spent the night in the hospital. After all the tests were done it was found to be indigestion. I am glad I had it checked though. Be safe, not sorry, Beale.

Dave,

My grandmother had the signs and ignored them. My aunt brushed it off as indigestion. Two days later, my mom got the call that she passed in her sleep. I exercise and have already seen a cardiologist for testing because my doctor heard something on exam and something fishy on the EKG. Everything is okay. Glad you are okay too.

My dad at the age of 64 died of a heart attack on his couch. His wife said he went downstairs because he had heartburn and could not sleep.
I am a Respiratory therapist at one of the nations top cardio hospitals.
Eveyone 35 and up should take one 81 mg aspirin daily. ( it thins the blood out. Its one of the first line defense you get when you go to the ER with chest pain) and have your blood pressure and choleterol checked. If needed take BP and cholesterol medicine.Do some type of excersise. Swinging a m.d. from side to side is not really excersise.
