Default My week, good and bad

As you all probably noticed, I'm not good at story telling, but I'll give it a try, telling about my week.

Our 2 daughters and their husbands and our 3 grandsons are coming in this weekend for about 10 days.

Things have been slow at work so I've been doing things around the house that I've been putting off. My father had passed away in 2003, and my mom stayed in their home as long as she could until she fell and broke her hip which put her in a nursing home. We emptied the house out and sold it last year. The obvious stuff we took to an auction but the stuff that had to be gone through (boxes and boxes) came to my basement.

I'd gone through quite a bit of them and discarded alot, but I decided to make an area in my unfinished basement to make the job easier. I put up some lights and then noticed a water pipe with a slight drip.

I shut off the main and cut the pipe to replace it, but noticed a small stream of water coming from it so I tried to close the main valve tighter. Anyway, it wasn't moving, even tried some gentle persuasion with a pipe wrench to no avail.

At this point I realized that I didn't have time to mess with it so I called a plumber. He came and removed the cover to the main valve by the street and as Murphy would have it, the part he needed to turn was broken. He was able to repair the leaking pipe with a compression fitting but now I have to have my yard dug up for the valve to be replaced. They will wait until after the family leaves.

I still have to get the grass cut for the last time, but it's been raining and looks like it will have to wait, and to top it off, I got a call from a client and actually had to do some work related to my job .

I'm not complaining, stuff happens and I am seeing results, but just want to let everyone know why I haven't been on much, and probably won't get on much, until after the family leaves.

So aside from everything else that I have to be thankful for, I'm thankful for that leak, if it wasn't for that I wouldn't have found out that I have a valve from the main that needs attention before 160psi of water breaks loose.

So everyone have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!

Certainly could have been a disaster if you had not noticed the leak. Sounds like you will have some nice memories this week and thats better than being remembered for the Thanksgiving when the pipe broke! Although, sometimes things like that are the most memorable!
