Default I'm Addicted How About You!

I have never been addicted to anything......well except for cigarettes. Dam things I can't seem to quit. Well until I got my Bounty Hunter Tracker IV for christmas 2007. I read the manual from cover to cover and just like a 5yr old in a candy store I could't wait to dig in.... literally. But it's January now and the ground is well, you know FROZEN!! So I started detecting around the house, needless to say my 2yr old daughter thought it was neat.....seeing daddy walk around the house carrying a strange machine and wearing martian ears on my head. Since she has only recently grasped the english language, she said to mommy......look mommy daddy funny! I have to admit, I did catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror on my quest for treasure in my livingroom, bathroom and the kitchen. yikes! I did look kind of ridiculous. How was I going to look when I really went outside to do this? Needless to say, I thought about it for two seconds and what do I care right! I'm my professional life I'm a police officer and people criticize all the time, what makes this any different?
Well my first hunting trip was in my back yard. I didn't dig anything(the wife didn't want holes in her yard) but can you blame her? But I did manage to wave coins across the coil to become familier with the different sounds they make....I thought that this should be simple enough. Until I passed a can, pull tabs and some other items across the coil. Holy hell, this was going to be a little harder than I thought. Well I read the manual again and learned about disc and tone hunting, which for some reason I didn't remember from the first reading!
I got to actually take my first hunting trip in northeast phila while visiting my mother in law. I went to a local high school and searched the open areas and athletic fields. It was five seconds after turning my detector on, that I got my first strong signal. It showed 2" in depth, I started digging and pulled out a large round disk. I cleaned it off and there it was my first quarter. It only took that one time and man I was hooked. The next three days I dug all kinds of stuff.....I even started dreaming about what I might dig up next. My wife thought maybe I was obsessing a little, maybe I am. But let me tell you, other than the birth of my child,I don't think I have been more excited about anything. All I think about now is when I can get that detector out and hit my next location. Just a thought before I go, does everyone feel this way or is it just my crazy obsession.....please let me know and happy hunting.

I always find myself looking at different properties. I say wow, I would love to detect that place. It is an obsession, but the pay backs is 2nd to none. It is great exercise, gets you outdoors, and you get to meet a lot of people. My husband says I am out of control ! He is right, but I can't seem to get enough!!

Welcome to the obsession!!! LOL, and HH!!

Bountyhunter, you have made it to the point in detecting known as hooked. Glad you are there. When I started years ago I did the same. The holes I dug looked like craters. It has gotten better. I still get looks from my wife when I dig holes in her yard. I Did find allot of cool things. As the years have gone by I still like this hobby a whole bunch. I have had times where I went hunting in 32 degree weather up in Delaware with winds a blowing strong. That was kinda die hard too.I would not trade my time spent digging for any other hobby. This one is the best.Congrats on your finds and Happy Hunting....Buster....

Yeah - you're hooked! - But so are most of us on TQ!

I'm getting ready to go out and hunt a middle school area as I write this....some light snow on the ground - and the high temp for today is only supposed to be 37 F! Since you are a police officer - you know that there are WORSE things a person could be hooked on!

Good luck and happy hunting!
