Thumbs down It's ashame!!

Now I really am fortunate to live in a city that is full of history, we have so many historical areas that I KNOW would be great to hunt! Unfortunatly 95% of these areas are a place where you would literally be taking a risk and the other 5% is state park land and no MDing is allowed. Meaning you would likely be shot, stabbed, robbed, or even worse kilt:(
I am a police officer in this city and I won't even hunt these areas with or without my gun.....I would have to have eyes in the back of my head, just to see who or what is behind me. It is so depressing to ride by in my patrol car and just day dream about that rare coin or piece of history just waiting to be discovered by me. Oh well, I guess that I will just have to settle for putting up crime scene tape and day dreaming about what lay under the poor soul who was just shot!

Hey BH....

sounds like a buddy system would work well for you... someone to tag along and watch your back at the same time...

and maybe you can even get them to dig for you

Wow. I had no idea Delaware had such violent areas!! I'm so sorry!! A buddy system might be in order,... maybe go out early on a week day...? I'm so sorry but that is a shame. Good use of the thumbs down icon.

If you are able to wear some sort of police clothing and put up tape around an area you want to hunt, you might not have anyone bother you. Act like you're looking for something from a crime scene. Take someone with you for sure!

You don't know the half of it, we had 5 murders in one month! I don't plan on being the next either!

I carry (sidearm) 100% of the time, detecting or not. I wouldn't be concerned as long as I were hunting a fairly open area (with nowhere for someone to hide), matter of fact I'm more concerned for my MDing partner than myself (being she's a female). Keep aware of your surroundings......no offense, but how do you make it as a cop? You're a city, county. or state cop.....but are afraid to MD? You should be more willing to exersize your rights than that.........

Indy, first of all I'm not afraid to MD anywhere, however I feel that the risk to hunt in these areas is just not worth it. Plus I risk my life everyday at work and I certainly don't want risk it doing something I enjoy! It is a dangerous city.

I would think being that your a police officer and you have connections couldnt you set it up after the research as a historical dig with many others and protection? Im gonna go into some shifty areas too and if im afraid I might as well hang it up.. good luck

That is a shame BH...all that history...I wouldn't chance it either, with all that going on...You in plain clothes, and them not knowing you are a cop, anything could happen...I see so many promising areas here, but the location really is a bummer!!! There are so many crazy people out there now days, on no telling what kind of drug...and other reasons, it wouldn't take but a second for someone to do something crazy to just anyone that happens to be in there area at anytime. They say some people not in their right mind, sometimes have the strength of 10 men.
Being female, really makes going by ourselves even worse...I have had the thought...lol...boy if I was a man I would hit that area...but your post makes ya really think...Either way got to be careful...and you being a police officer knows this for a fact!!!

Be safe and HH
