OK - I first posted to Rip's post where he mentioned that BDA might be leaving TQ...now that I've read this one, I understand what was going on in Rip's post!

On a forum such as this one, a certain amount of censorship (although I hate the word) is required...and I certainly have NO problem with that. BDA's post certainly wasn't offensive to me - nor was the subsequent responses...although I can see where they COULD have degenerated to something inappropriate (especially to our younger members) if left unchecked - and I think that was Arkwater's point.

I really like BDA's point as to perhaps it would be more appropriate (in situations such as this one) if a moderator contacted the poster before simply closing the post...this gives the poster a chance to hear first-hand why the decision is being made and gives the poster a chance to modify or explain to the members that no offense was intended - because I truly believe that our members would NEVER deliberately be offensive to anyone. On the flip-side, there are absolutely times when a post SHOULD be deleted or closed immediately - but that's another circumstance entirely - and again, our good members are not generally involved with those situations.

One case that involved me personally, was when Steve in PR Pm'ed me to ask if I would mind if he moved my post to another category...he didn't HAVE to ask - but out of couresy contacted me about the matter. I understand the situation wasn't an apples to apples comparison to this one - but his courtesy and politeness impressed me a great deal.

Our moderators do a fine job on this forum - but their responsibilites are subjective - and we must realize that they're doing their jobs in the best manner in which they're capable. I appreciate all of you and the jobs you do - and hope that you'll consider the suggestion to contact the person (poster) in advance in cases like this.

I'll get off my soapbox now with saying this: There is NO better TH forum than TQ...and BDA - you help (in no small way) to keep it that way!

Shawn

I tell people about this site all the time..Try to get them to come and check it out. I would not be ashamed to show anyone anything posted here or show any posts to my wife or daughter. I still feel that way. I also believe that Greg and the crew will do the right thing when it comes to monitoring posts. 4000 people are a lot of monitoring and it's got to be a tough job for sure...I still believe that this site is all family...Buster....

Hi, I Guess I'm Going To Have To Agree 100% With Gregory On This Issue. This Post In No Way Offended Me But I Did Have This Thought In The Back Of My Mind Of Certain Younger Ones Looking At The Post. Someone Has To Make Decisions On What Posts Are Accepetable Or Not And Who Better Than The Founder Himself. This Site Can Not Exist To Any Normal Functionality Unless There Is Some Kind Of Control Over The Content Posted Or The Replies Made Etc.. I Hate To Say It BDA But Your Going To Have To Bite The Bullet On This One. I Know These Gold Thingy's Are A Part Of Every Day Life And There Are Even Commericials About Them Plus They Are In Just About Every Grocery Store Too . But I Would Have To Say There Are A Lot Better Finds To Post Than These Things. I Really Think It Would Of Been Totally Uncalled For Not To Mention Very Offensive If You Would Of Posted Used Ones Though. Hey BDA It's Time To Take This One Like A Man And Just Forget About It. And For Gods Sake Don't Even Think About Quitting The Forum Or Not Posting Any More. In A Nut Shell Just Don't Worry About It Nobody Thinks Any Lesser Of You. Just Ask Yourself This One Question Are You Going To Quit On Your Self Or Your Woman When The Going Gets Tough? If You Answered Yes Then See Ya!!!! Obviously You Like It Here And Everyone Likes You Here. I Also Know It Takes Some Work To Post Regularly Like You Do.. Just Keep This In Mind You're My Inspiration Of The Future. You Bring Rays Of Sunshine To Me In Your Posts Of Warm Weather And Bikinis.. And Always Remember Bermudaful Days.....Thanks JJ

I worried about this all day at work. My apologies BDA. I was going to send you a note but then Rip posted as soon as I closed it then I needed to get to work. The post was not offensive to me personally but I'm thinking of the young ens. I like BDA in fact I told him so the other day. I would never intentionally do something to harm our friendship or anyone else on here for that matter.

Hello,
I know I have not been with TQ very long and maybe I should not respond but feel like I should. I wasn't going to comment on the post when BDA posted it though, I have to admit I laughed about it but.....

My family and I were sitting around in the living room when I seen your post BDA. They all know how much I LOVE reading your post and how much I brag about your finds so when I said GOLD... they came a running to me. I of course could NOT tell by the small pic what I was about to click on and when I did... oh my gosh... I thought.... what in the world did I show them? I moved the laptop quickly away and said, "GET AWAY"! They kept saying, "let us see", "let us see". I convinced them it was nothing for them to see. Please try to understand if you can.. and I know it will be hard cause you aren't in my shoes. My daughter will turn 15 tomorrow. My son will turn 11 years old this year. I homeschool them and my son has always been homeschooled and the daughter since 3rd grade. I won't get into those whys here. Some will dissagree here but my children are very sheltered. We mingle but with only few people and we raise our children in a pretty strict environment. This doesn't mean when they grow up they won't stray from what they have been taught but we are doing what the word says to do and that is to train them up right. With that said, I just feel as parents in the setting we are in... we have lots of time to teach them about such things as this one, but... when the time comes, I personally want to tell them myself. The best way is for a parent to tell them if you can do so before someone beats you to it. My 15 year old is mature and mature enough to have seen it but she has no idea what it is. I'm still holding on to her but she is going to hear soon enough. Not sure when we will allow that dating thing either, but that is coming I am sure.

BDA... you didn't offend me at all, I just moved the laptop so they couldn't see it. I respect Gregory's decision as to WHY he removed it and I find from what others say that he is a very fair man. I certainly can tell from this last post that he thinks the world of you and so do I. Please DON'T leave!!!! We all love seeing your treasures.

Sorry for the long post. I hope it was ok to post my feelings. Thanks Greg for the best MD Forum on the net. I honestly with all my heart feel like I found a family and not just a family but a family place my children are safe to come to. If I have to moderate though.. I can do that as a parent since they aren't allowed to go anywhere by themselves on here.

Anyway... I love all of you on TQ and there is nothing I wouldn't do for any of you and I just pray that all of this gets worked out.

Just a note to those who think that the Mods should contact the member before editing !

Thats backwards,, the moderator needs to do the edit when they find the problem contact comes afterward at the Mods descretion .

Most people can figure out what the problem was with their post ,,and in reality they should have decided its appropriateness before hitting the submit button .

in the odd instance where its borderline ,, then its left to the Mods to decide and thats the way it should be . they are charged with making the forum acceptable to the majority .Its not an easy job and in fact in most cases it is a thankless job with very little or no reward for the hours spent keeping the membership safe from all kinds of assaults that many of the members will never see or even know were present .

The atmosphere of this forum can be ruined in a heart beat ,if one such post is allowed to remain while another of similar kind is removed its just a matter of time before the rooms fill with other such content .

fairness ,equality ,and the forum demeanor can be really tough to balance .

No Regrets !
