Default BDA's post closed ????

Ok so what was so bad about that post that it had to be closed ? In todays world of aids and other STD's wouldent it be best to promote awarness rather than trying to hide such things ? Come on now ! Anyone that can turn on a TV can see way worse everyday !

Sorry about that Rip. Did you want to post to it? The initial post was fine but I'm not interested in an in-depth discussion about condoms here. It just may offend someone. Again, I'm sorry if I'm off the mark on this one or offended anyone but like I said, I was fine with the initial post.

I agree Rip, sticking one's head in the sand is no way to deal with an issue. The post was humorous and fair in my opinion and hardly in bad taste from my perspective. Everyone had a little fun with it and at no point did it go into the realm of truly bad taste. While I appeciate the moderators have a tough job and the toughest part of that is censorship and when to exercise it I do think the moderators are off the mark this time.
Three times I have had posts deleted or closed in the 3 months since I came back to TQ and started actively posting again. Once I had a post deleted by asking the question "has anyone seen BoobieinPa?"(I wasn't around for the problems that had occurred last summer), the next post was deleted for political content and in retrospect it may have been a little too edgy for some folks(so fair enough), this time I completely disagree with the moderators.
What offends me the most is that on all three occassions the posts were deleted without any dialogue with the poster before the action was taken. I think common courtesy would demand that a notification be sent to the poster before the action was taken, otherwise it smacks of highhandedness, never a good thing in a forum that promotes open dialogue.
Regrettably, I have to reconsider my membership on this forum, which will be a sad thing for me as I've come to love and respect the members here in the short time I've been back.

Kindest Regards,

BDA

I understand. My main concern was with children viewing. I'm sorry.

Last time i checked , we still had freedom of speech in this country....so what the heck happened?????? oh yah the LIBERALS are taking over our country...i forgot. Better not offend them .
Don't get your knickers in a twist, Schoser. I understand how you feel but the reality is that the forum belongs to the moderators and it is a tough job that I don't envy them. Trying to balance the sensibilities of 4,000 members ranging from Little Johnny to Joe Normal to Pirates is a bit like trying to untangle the Gordian Knot. They have a right to make these decisions and based on those decisions we have a right to participate or not. I'm going to wrestle with this today on my hunt and make up my own mind about whether or not this is the right place for a Pirate like me.

Cheers,

BDA

I did not see the Post in Question so I will speak from the point that as we do have some younger members and that alot of times when I'm on here , the 2 youngsters here ( 7 & 10 ) will alot of times stand behind me and read whats on the screen as they Love the Avatars and Pix of finds and all the other stuff. I don't know about all the political correctiveness stuff and don't really care as I think it's just a matter of Responsibility as to what & how we say something depending where we are at. It's REALLY Hard these days to try to keep everything Balanced and as always there will be a Toe or two that feels stepped on.Hopefully these things can always be settled with no one being hurt or offended. I know the vast Majority of us are Adults and it can be easy to get on subjects that can be funny in their own way but as a Family site I think we just have to walk a little tighter line. I Believe in my heart that Gregory will do what is right for TQ as a Whole and everyone will understand.
As I said If The kids are Involved then it's another level to deal with. I would never tell the 2 here that they must leave my room and can't see what I'm doing on here. They love detecting ( have BH Fast trackers) and want to be a part of things like this site.
I would never want to be in Gregory's or any of the Moderators shoes as when it comes to making decisions on stuff like this it is never an easy thing.
I think that discussing these matters is healthy for the Site and the members in general as to everyone knowing whats on the table. As I've said before, This is Gregory's site and I Trust him in his judgement for what is good for this site. I always hope that if something like this comes along that it can be discussed with reason and everyone can walk away OK. JMHO.

I don't usually get involved in these sorts of things, but I had to jump in.

I have very strong political and religious views and if I get started I don't mean to offend anyone (although I know I often will), but my view is that what's right is right and if someone can't handle the truth, that's their problem.

Anyway, I'm getting better at not getting started, but I think if a controversial thread were to continue I wouldn't be able to control myself .

I agree that Greg's job and that of the moderators, isn't an easy one and they can't please everyone, but I think they do a great job of balancing it and I thank them for it.

PS....BDA, I was a little disappointed that I wasn't able to comment on the Newt video, but it was probably for the better.

Well.....bottom line is it's a "private" forum & there were rules that came with the membership......Admin & Mods are the enforcers of those rules.

I've left a couple forums because I didn't care for what went on there.....I didn't ask them to change the rules to fit me, I just left because I wasn't comfortable with them...........
