Default Need advice

I know where a couple of really old homes are still standing. They are all grown up with weeds. No one really lives close by these houses,so I don't know who to permission from. There aren't any No Trespassing signs, should I try my luck and hope no one calls the law or what?

That is a tough call. If it were me I would call the register of deeds. Try and locate the owner?

I dunno I also might take a chance. I got run off some land once hunting. The owner of the land had a shotgun with him, Beale.

HI Chris.. That Really is a Tugh Call. As EBCIII says, I would try The Register of deeds, County Clerk or Whoever. I To would Be Tempted and Have been But out of respect for the Hobby and Not wanting to get in a fight, Shot or have someone turn some mean dog loose on me I try to find the owner and if not I pass on it. To Many other places to hunt and avoid Trouble. Thats another reason I'm doing more Beach & Water detecting. People today are not as predictable as they use to be. For me personally .. people are just to edgy and trigger happy to take the chance. Thats just me tho.

That's pretty good advice,I would rather go about it the right way.I an not worried about getting into trouble,it's just that possibility of getting shot or something.
Thanks

Go to your local county courthouse and tell them you need to find contact information of a specific piece of property. Being that you are accessing public records, you have a right to do this. Bring as much information as you can in order to help them help you locate the exact property. If you have the address of the location, it would help you greatly. Once you get the contact information, it will then take either a letter or a phone call to get your permission. I did this once with a house that was falling down and trees were growing from the inside out. The owner lived all the way in California and denied my request because he was afraid of me getting hurt on the land and wanting to sue him... Needless to say, you will never know if you can obtain permission or not until you ask. Good luck, I hope you can get onto that property!

I disagree whole heartedly with this suggestion !!

We as a community need to be above reproach ,, we are already losing the ability to hunt in many places and every incident that brings dis repute to the hobby only hurts our cause .

First I had to make sure you didn't live in that part of Texas that made history fifty some odd years ago. You know the area; it cozies up next to the slaughter house. I'd go through the motions of locating the owner but wouldn't be entirely deterred if the search proved fruitless. Use you're smarts and good judgment and that may mean walking away. People these days, informed people, just ain't willing to put their liability policies to the test. When some imbecile can win a judgment for millions because she wasn't forewarned that hot coffee spilled in the lap burns...wow. If you were to trip and fall whilst tres.. While foraging the grounds without the owners consent. It offers some deniability for that owner. It could be said that you’re doing him/her a favor. It's a tough call for sure. Sometimes doing the right thing gets the door slammed in your face. Call em as ya see em.

Try to get permission. If you can't find who it belongs to, go speak with the neighbors. Even if they live a mile away, I'll bet they know who owns it.

Default Tax Accessor's Office

I would suggest that you contact the tax accessor's office. They have maps showing the owners name, etc. Then I would try to contact the owners who are paying the taxes. I would not hunt without a permission letter first.
