So today, I went fishing with a friend that also want to get a detector. He is torn between a few different units. So after fishing, I broke out the MXT at his house. He tossed a few coins on the lawn and asked if I though I could find them. I said sure, but you should try. So he set out and found them easy enough and was like "these things really work."

When he was swinging it, I heard a couple of softer full tones and asked if he had lost anything in the grass that he could remember and he said no. So when he was done, I grabbed the MXT and looked agin and found the same signal. I told him that there was something here about 4-5" deep so he broke out his knife and dug it. Turned out to be a clad dime. Then he was really stoked. Swing it a few more times and pulled a nickle and a penny out of the lawn down to about 5-6" deep.

I used one of the tips I got from the Unofficial MXT site. When getting a good tone, and checking depth, I switched it to porspecting mode and checked to see if it was iron. All three time is said the porbability was 10-20% and I decided to dig. Didn't really want to dig his lawn for a nail or pop top.

So all in all, in two times out, with a total time of 1.5 hours, I have learned some really good stuff and am getting used to the tones and how the display reads.

Again, thanks to all for the help so far. I have used some of the tips from members here, and videos and site links that members have sent me! This is a great site!

Oh, one other thing... When seeding the grass with coins, my friend threw out one of the new nickels; You know the ones that have a partial picture of Jefferson on the front. Well, my detector had a hard time with it. It didn't really produce a tone, but the display showed a nickel and had the visual bar showing. Not until I turned the discrimination down did it make a tine, but still didn't have a full tone. And the nickel was sitting on top of the grass, not buried. Anyone know what's up with that? Give it a try with your units and let me know what happens. It only does it with the new nickels, but not with others.

WTG Frank ! I think That nickel problem could be cuz American currency has fallen so much that even the coins are losing their sounds.
I'll have to see what happens with one of those with My Wilson and CZ21 if I ever get out.
Anyway I think You and the MXT are gonna do Great together!

Good Luck & HH

I was mistaken about the new nickels. I tried it again and it worked fine. I must have had the discrimination turned up or something when I was doing it the first time.
