I will apologise right off the bat for this long, boring post. It won't happen again with this detail. Since its my first, bear with me.
I live on an old farm built in the 1910's. Use to be about 400 acres and previous owners sold it down to to about 4 acres which I now live on. This past weekend I finally was able to get out with my new, and first MD. To start I will say that cutting through frozen ground had an advantage to unfrozen ground on my property. The frozen piece I cut out with my shovel went neatly back into place. The unfrozen piece at times was crumbly if there was little or no root system. At times because of the cold, my nose dripped on the MD screen.(drats, should have got the rain cover) My cat was a poor supervisor he easily lost his attention when going after rabbits or passing leaf. Pennies 16 earliest was 1944 D up to 1986 D Nickles 1 1971 D Dimes 3 1965 to 1981 D Quarters 4 1966 to 1982 D Bracelet 1 At the jewlers today he said it was probably pewter, not silver because it felt heavy. Gem 1 Amethyst He said it was at least 4 carats, dark in color, conservative estimate 1000.00 The setting was gold, but quite dirty. He cleaned it up a little in an ultrasonic cleaner. If not for the setting I would have never found it. metal toy car racers shotgun brass rifle brass 5 keys, all in the same general area. One works in an older door in the house. ONe belt buckle several mason jar lids and glass shards Two silver spoons One corroded butter knife Screw on bottle caps 8 Real bottle caps 3 pull tabs 26 Tin cans 2 quite flattened Old kerosene can 1 quite flattened horse shoes one; plus 1/2 of another pieces of barbed wire coat hangers myriads of metal parts from a tractor(s) If I keep going I can build one. Think of that old Cadilac song. The one where he built himself a new Cadilac by stealing Cadilac parts from the factory he worked in for years. Anyway, if you haven't heard the song it don't mean nothing to you. Assorted metal pieces, nails, farm implements, bolts, water pipes, leaf spring, fence post auger, etc etc What have I learned? Patience. Odd pieces of metal sound much different(bizzare) than a coin or smaller piece of metal. The sound is not as focused. Streaker is useless except for a brief interludes of petting which is all I really wanted. Future plan.........There is more here. Older coins to be sure. Its an old house.(unfortunately not like the ones out east) I am hunting on the side of the farmhouse that was renovated and added onto about 35 years ago and other outlying areas. The front of the house I hopefully can find older coins. Thanks for your patience and good hunting. Riff ![]() |

That's a great first hunt, I know you were busy digging all those finds. I'm sure you're property has plenty more for you and the best is yet to come!
I remember that song, not the name but I know who's a big fan of the artist that sang it, and can probably tell us the name of the song.......let's ask Cash1977
