I was passing through... stayed in Urbana. It woke me up, and I was sleeping pretty hard. I remember thinking.... hmmm, that was an earthquake, then I went back to sleep. First one I have ever felt. It was different than I thought they would feel... it was very "rhythmatic". (I know.... fake word, but it works).

I grew up on top of the San Andreas. We had to get a 4 or we couldn't tell the difference between earthquake or bus! But we have them around here several times a year. Some are a single BANG jolt that raises the house up and drops it an inch or two. Others, slosh side to side, like Loma Preata. That one was a 7.5 or so and rolled along for nearly a minute. Sort of like land surfing! They always catch you by surprise, but the best time for them is around the new moon and the full moon. That's when the tides are the highest, and that is when the "rock" tides are highest as well. So, Full Moon and New Moon are "Earthquake Weather".

That is interesting DeefBurger! Boy, growing up out there on the San Andreas, I'll bet you are wondering what all the fuss is about the little ole 5.2.

Im near Chicago and I didnt feel a thing but a lot of my coworkers said that they did. I do remember a quake in either 86 or 87. I was working at a restaurant and the plates started coming off the shelves.
