Default New to Detecting

I live in Mitchell, Indiana and just purchased a Garrett Ace 250. I pick it up this Saturday so I was just looking for information on how to use the detector. This is my first venture into detecting. I do plan a vacation to Fort Myers Beach in March and planned to try it there also. I am a retired Indiana State Trooper and am now doing private investigations. Yes, I am also new to forum life too. Please be patient with me if I ask a real dumb question.

Hey Trooper, welcome to the forum.. Can't help you with the Ace but there are plenty of people here who will. Don't be shy, everyone here is friendly and as Chuck says "Only dumb question is the one not asked."
Have fun and good hunting.. Bob

Welcome to the forum!!!
First off, there is no “dumb” question here. Have you watched the DVD that came with your detector? If you have, I think you should watch it a couple of times to really digest what it is telling you. I have been told this many times, practice, practice, and practice some more!!! The more you use your detector, the more it will make sense and the more you will find. I too have an Ace 250, only had it for a short time now, but I did what I mentioned above and it really helped me.

Happy Hunting

Welcome Old Trooper.

I've used my Ace 250 on Ocean beaches in Florida and it works just fine; east side, not west, but it should work OK. Over wet sand keep the coil above the sand, as it will false if it touches. Dry Sand, no problem.

Good Luck and enjoy the Sunshine State.

Default Florida

Kind of hope that this would be the case. This beach is really flat and hard near the water. This is where all the walkers look for shells so I figured I would work the dry sand anyway. At least it should be warm. Thanks for the information.
