Default Need an Inexpensive Digging Knife?

FYI-Got this "big grip garden knife" at Walmart for $10.50 tax included, no real sheath. Seen it online for $25 with nylon sheath.
-Large, soft molded grips provide added comfort and control
-Serrated knife edge to cut through roots or other tough material
-Trough for carrying and planting seeds or transporting soil
-Pre-sharpened blade cuts through the ground easier
-Blade features a weeding tip for easy root removal
-Coated metal head resists rust
-Large hang hole for easy storage

Post Digging Knife

Hey MLAMP...

Welcome to TQ...I read your thread the other day about the digging knife , and was in the vicinity of a local "Wally World" so I stopped in to check it out...Ended up buying one...It seems like the ideal digging tool for MD'ing, and I liked all the features you had mentioned...Thanks for the tip and Good Luck with your finds...

Default Yeah it works great!!!

My wife picked up one of those fiskars garden tools based on your post and we think it works great and it is built very sturdy. The serrations cut roots like a tree saw blade!

I think all it might need is a touch of sharpening at the tip to make insertion easier. Thanks for the lead to a great deal!

I couldn't find mine the other day and was frantic. Luckily I whave a Walmart close by so I bought another one and later found the original right where I had stowed it. It fits nicely in my back pocket and the only complaint I have is that the handle is loose but can be secured with adhesive. I carry it in a back pocket easily. like any tool it can only stand so much prying but for the money it's pretty good.

I must admit I have broken the original one I got
Walmart replaced it, no problem. It seems prying is its downfall. My wife just got me a Leshe Digging knife for our anniversary. That thing seems bulletproof! Can't wait to try it.

The replacement Friskars will now be a back-up digger.

Boobie, good call on grinding out the v tip. That feature was a bit annoying.

OK After a weekend of treacherous prying it is showing some signs of flexing at the blade/handle joint. I still like it, but I see I will have to show a little control when prying now...

Default Fiskars

For the price it cannot be beat, the only way it could be better is if it came with a sheath and was made of brass. :)
